​Exemplary Teacher Awards (nomination required)

Exemplary Awards are available at he the College, Elementary, Middle, High School and Private teaching levels.  You can nominate yourself or others for this award and you can receive it each year.  Please click on the appropriate link below to apply. Awards will be presented at the Summer Conference.

Criteria for receiving the Exemplary Private String Teacher Award are:

• Students involved in Youth Symphony organizations – numbers submitted with application

• Evidence of Professional Development – documentation from workshops attended.

• Private Teacher assists in picking appropriate instruments for the students playing ability.

• Participation in CCAP

• Students applying/accepted into ASO or WSHOF - number of students who apply and the number of students accepted submitted.

• Evidence of transition to college as a continuing player, if not music major or minor.

• Students involved in their public school music program.

• Member of the Board of CASTA or service on one of the CASTA committees.

Criteria for receiving the Exemplary Elementary String Teacher Award are:

• Solo and Ensemble Participation – include date and location

• Effective recruiting – document the number of students in the building and the number of students in the program.  A minimum of 25% of the class enrollment must be involved in the class.

• Mentoring of new teachers – This may include student teachers, college interns, mentoring new teachers in your district in the induction program or helping out a new colleague.

• Evidence of good transition from elementary to middle level - numbers of students continuing. 

• Evidence of professional development – documentation from the school district or from the University where credit is earned

• Evidence of active advocacy for music in elementary buildings - participation in local concerts and festivals, classroom performances, meetings with principals and parents groups, etc.

• Leadership in the profession - Holding an office in a professional organization, district committees for music or teachers.  Presenter at state or national convention.

• Member of the Board of CASTA or service on one of the CASTA committees.

Criteria for receiving the Exemplary Middle School/Junior High String Teacher Award are:

• Solo and Ensemble Participation – include date and location

• Effective recruiting – Document the number of students in the middle level program and the number of students who continue in the High School program. 

• Mentoring of new teachers – This may include student teachers, college interns, mentoring new teachers in your district in the induction program or helping out a new colleague.

• Evidence of good transition from Middle School/Junior High to High School -numbers of students continuing. 

• Evidence of professional development – documentation from the school district or from the University where credit is earned.

• Evidence of active advocacy for music in your district or at the state level – (examples may include:  participation in local concerts and festivals, classroom performances, meetings with principals and parents groups, etc.)

• Leadership in the profession - Holding an office in a professional organization, district committees for music or teachers.  Presenter at state or national convention.

• Member of the Board of CASTA or service on one of the CASTA committees.

• Solo and Ensemble Participation – include date and location.

• Evidence of good transition from High School to College - numbers of students continuing. 

• Evidence of professional development – documentation from the school district or from the University where credit is earned.

• Evidence of active advocacy for music in your district or at the state level - (examples may include:  participation in local concerts and festivals, classroom performances, meetings with principals and parents groups, etc.)

• Leadership in the profession - Holding an office in a professional organization, district committees for music or teachers.  Presenter at state or national convention.

• Member of the Board of CASTA or service on one of the CASTA committees.

Criteria for receiving the Exemplary College/University String Professor Award are:

• Support of the public school system – evidence of providing mentorship to public school teachers and students.

• Evidence of outstanding student achievement – student recital documentation and evidence of students receiving teaching or performance assignments upon completion of their degree.

• Evidence that the professor can work with students at varying levels.

• Evidence of Maintaining and Increasing numbers in the private studio.

• Evidence of professional development – documentation required

• Leadership in the profession - Holding an office in a professional organization, district committees for music or teachers. Present at state or national convention.

• Demonstrate Artistic Outreach during the time for which you are petitioning for an award.

• Member of the Board of CASTA or service on one of the CASTA committees.
